White out of order! Beyoncé is looking several shades lighter in promo shoot for her new album

She faced controversy back in 2008 when her skin appeared shades lighter in an advertisement.

But it appears Beyoncé - or her producers - have not learned their lesson.

A promotional picture has emerged of the pop princess looking much paler than her usual colour.

The new photo, taken before the 30-year-old fell pregnant with her newborn daughter, are being used to re-advertise her fourth album, 4, which was released last year.

In the seductive pose, Beyoncé dons a blonde wig and lies on a leopard-print couch, wearing a skimpy black crochet monokini. She also wears suspenders and a lashing of dark red lipstick.

Experts told The Sun the appearance may have been down to lighting used in the studio. Howeverm this is not the first time the wife of rapper Jay-Z has accused of appearing to 'lighten' her skin.'

It has been alleged that in the early days of award-winning band Destiny's Child her father Mathew Knowles had persuaded her to use skin treatments to remain the lightest-complexioned member of the successful girl group.

And some commentators have expressed fears, that these images of the superstar singer - who is famous for her honey-toned hair and complexion, could have the effect of making darker-skinned black girls ashamed of how they look.

In August 2008, cosmetics giant L’Oreal was accused of ‘whitewashing’ the star in an advert by digitally lightening her skin.

And last February, a very blonde Beyonce stepped out, wearing a black minidress which revealed unusually pale skin on the star.

At the time writer Yasmin Alibhai-Brown accused the singer of 'betraying all Black and Asian women.'

She wrote in The Daily Mail: 'Too many black and Asian children grow up understanding the sad truth that to have dark skin is to be somehow inferior.

'Of course, black and Asian parents work hard to give their children a positive self-image and confidence in their appearance, despite the cultural forces stacked against them.

'But when black celebrities appear to deny their heritage by trying to make themselves look white, I despair for the youngsters who see those images.'

At the time, the cosmetics house denied that the pictures had been altered in such a way but The New York Post newspaper called the advert ‘shocking’ and accused it of making the singer look like a ‘weird, nearly white version of herself’.
She has not commented on the photos.

Beyoncé was born and raised in Texas by her African father and mixed-race mother.

The singer gave birth to her first child, daughter Ivy Blue Carter, last Saturday in New York.

The internet rumour mill went into overdrive late last month with claims Beyonce had given birth to her baby girl.

And now the singer has emerged for the first time since the speculation began.

In these exclusive pictures, the 30-year-old is seen stroking her tummy as she's escorted out of a New York office building by a body guard.


The star, who was dressed in skinny jeans and a blazer, used a huge patterned scarf to cover her stomach.

She was wearing gold heels, albeit much lower than her usual six inch favourites.

It is the first time the star has been pictured since December 21 but witnesses had spotted the star celebrating New Year's Eve with her husband Jay-Z at Buttermilk Channel in Brooklyn, New York.

And her younger sibling Solange, 25, confirmed her sister was very much still pregnant when the clock struck midnight.

She tweeted: 'Shout out to my sister for being THE cutest pregnant woman ever!'

Baby rumours reached fever pitch on December 30 with reports that Beyoncé had given welcomed a daughter called Tiana May Carter.

It came after reports suggested that staff at St Luke's Roosevelt Hospital - a private facility in New York - had been told to prepare for a VIP arrival.

Too sexy for her bump? Beyonce was out and about in NYC on Tuesday wearing flesh-coloured animal print leggings while she covered her top in a large shirt


She’s about ready to pop but it seems Beyonce is determined to dress to impress right up until the moment she gives birth to her first child.

The singer will welcome a tot into to the world this month but that hasn’t stopped her from donning sexy ensembles throughout her final trimester of pregnancy.

The latest racy outfit from the star comes in the form of a pair of animal print leggings which she wore to go shopping on Wednesday.


Although she wore a bump-concealing loose black shirt, the diva enjoyed a spot of retail therapy in tight flesh-coloured hosiery as she picked up some gifts just in time for Christmas.

The 30-year-old had all eyes on her thighs as she visited Curve in New York City, strutting out of the venue in sexy black buckled shoe boots, a leather jacket and carrying a snakeskin bag.

Her clothing wasn’t the only animalistic quality in Beyonce’s outfit, she flaunted red claw-style nails – that stars including Lady GaGa are currently wearing - as she waved to onlookers upon exiting the building.

At the same time Bey exhibits her famous curves on the cover of the latest Jones magazine.

Beyonce’s parents Mathew and Tina Knowles announced they were divorcing after 31 years of marriage on Tuesday following claims that he fathered a love child.

In regarded to parenthood, their eldest daughter tells the February issue of the publication: ‘I believe that parents prepare their kids for the moment that they’re on their own: at this point, I am taking everything my dad and my mother have taught me, and I’m able to do things my way.’
